GIS Services

Map and GIS Collections and Services furthers the mission of the TAMU Libraries by acquiring, managing and delivering geospatial information for members of the Texas A&M University community from all colleges and agencies associated with TAMU, as well as members of the local community.

Data Support
Using personal service and expertise, we distribute local, state, national and international geospatial data in print and digital format. We offer GIS assistance for those seeking difficult to find data, in format ranging from GIS files, vector and raster data, as well as printed maps to complement the GIS work.

Teaching Support and Data Packages
Every semester we offer guest-lectures to introduce our data and services and share with students the vast array of library-owned and free online resources available to enhance GIS projects. Faculty members interested in scheduling a GIS session for their class(es), please contact us.

We have launched a pilot project to offer GIS Data packages stored in our ArcGIS Server infrastructure. Faculty members may submit a request to work in a package for their teaching needs. Please contact us to schedule a meeting and discuss your needs and our possible options.

Applications available:

Free ArcGIS Student 1-year license
Texas A&M faculty members and full-time staff may order multiple licenses of ArcGIS for their students. Texas A&M University has an ESRI campus-wide site license, and one of the benefits is that enrolled students may be eligible to obtain a free copy of the ArcGIS and Extensions Student Edition—One-Year Education Use Only (media and license). Students cannot request a copy, instead a faculty or full-time staff member must place the request for them. Read here for details to check if you are eligible and how to obtain a copy.
Note: It is not required to be a GIS instructor to request the software for students.

WE HAVE COPIES AVAILABLE FOR STUDENTS
Faculty and staff: You must purchase ArcGIS through the Texas A&M Software Center. the student copies are only to be installed in student personal computers.
Students:
The student copy may only be installed on student personal computer, not a Texas A&M-owned computer. If intended to be installed in a Texas A&M-owned computer, ArcGIS must be purchased through the Texas A&M Software Center.

If you are interested in obtaining a free copy of ArcGIS Student Edition, we can provide one to you. Just please fill out the form, and e-mail it to us. Do not worry about signing the form. You will need to sign the form and show your TAMU ID when you come to pick up your software copy. There are two versions of the software. Please fill out the form according to the version you need:

Form ArcGIS (ArcView) 9.3.1
Form ArcGIS (ArcInfo) 10

Once you e-mail the form to us, we will notify you when the CD is ready for you to pick up at our front desk (Evans, Room 202)....Please don't forget your TAMU ID!

Esri's BUSINESS ANALYST ONLINE (BAO), and COMMUNITY ANALYST

BAO or Community Analyst are freely available to all Texas A&M members (faculty, students and staff) for non-commercial teaching and learning purposes. Texas A&M members can get access with their NetID through the campus-licensed activation link
To establish the access for the first time, click on the activation link. You will be presented with a login screen. Log in with your Esri global account; your Esri account will then be linked to the subscription.

Note: If you are interested in using BAO or Community Analyst for a faculty/staff research project that does not involve student learning, please contact the Texas A&M Software Center.
