Company Overviews & Histories, Financials, Key Executives, Competitors, Products & Services

Within a company report, there is usually a section that summarizes the firm’s current condition. Read these sections to get a description of the company’s main operations, threats or opportunities confronting it and its strategy going forward. Histories, if present, can give a sense of a company’s mission and values, as well as obstacles overcome in the past.

Business Source Complete
This database includes over 10,000 company reports from Datamonitor. To access them, click the Company Profiles link in the right-hand column of the opening screen. About a third of the reports include SWOT analysis.
Hoover's Premium
Although coverage varies by firm size, Hoover’s Premium reports nearly always include a Full Overview that, while concise, is surprisingly detailed in describing the company’s operations, problems, opportunities and strategy. History sections, when present, complement the Full Overview, providing background and context for current actions.
Mergent Online
Provides current and historical financial data, links to extensive lists of SEC filings, and several years of annual reports for over 10,000 U.S. companies and 17,000 non-U.S. companies. Special strengths of this database include its detailed company histories, discussions of debt and equity structure and hard-to-find annual reports for international companies.
Business and Company Resource Center
Within the company report, choose the Products tab. This source can be inconsistent but is worth checking because it often provides the most detailed list of products and brands offered by a company.

Factiva
Go to the News Pages tab to find the latest weeks’ issues from the Wall Street Journal, New York Times, Barron’s, Forbes and other newspapers and periodicals. Factiva’s layout makes it easy to browse articles from the front page or from sections deeper within the publications. You can also do a quick search within these sources for articles about your company or you can use the Search Builder (under the Search tab) to do a more complex search.

Business Source Complete
Use the search form to find articles on your company or its industry or to deepen or update information you find elsewhere in your company research. Use the Filter box (above your results) to focus on trade publications or newspapers.
