ArcGIS for Desktop-Student Licenses

The student copy may only be installed on a student personal computer, not a Texas A&M-owned computer. If intended to be installed in a Texas A&M-owned computer, ArcGIS must be purchased through the Texas A&M Software Center.

If you are interested in obtaining a free copy of ArcGIS Student Edition, we can provide one to you. Just please fill out, sign, and e-mail the form to us. There are four versions of the software. Please fill out the form according to the version you need:

Form ArcGIS (ArcView) 9.3.1
Form ArcGIS (ArcInfo) 10
Form ArcGIS Advanced 10.1
Form ArcGIS for Desktop 10.2

Once you e-mail the form to us, we will send the authorization number and instructions for installation and how to obtain the software via internet. For versions 9.3 and 10, you will need to pick up a CD at the Map & GIS Library.

ArcGIS for Desktop-Faculty and Staff

You must purchase ArcGIS through the Texas A&M Software Center. The student copies are only to be installed in student personal computers, not a Texas A&M-owned computer. If intended to be installed in a Texas A&M-owned computer, ArcGIS must be purchased through the Texas A&M Software Center.

If you are an instructor at Texas A&M University, and want to provide the software to your students, you may request the licenses for them to install on personal computers. Texas A&M University holds an Esri campus-wide site license, and one of the benefits is that enrolled students may be eligible to obtain a free copy of the ArcGIS and Extensions Student Edition—One-Year Education Use Only (media and license). Students cannot request a copy, instead a faculty or full-time staff member must place the request. Read here for details to check if you are eligible and how to obtain a copy.
Note: It is not required that you are a GIS instructor to request the software.

Frequent Asked Questions

The computer needs to have any ArcGIS software removed before adding another version.

If I graduate, will ArcGIS still work?

Yes, the expiration is after a year, even if it is after graduation.

Can I renew the license after 1 year?

If you are still enrolled as student at TAMU, the answer is yes. You would just need to request the new copy.

Can I install this version in my academic department or lab computer?

No, TAMU systems should get installed a copy purchased at the Software Center.
